Federal Member for Brisbane, the Hon Teresa Gambaro MP, hosted a tour of the Leaders’ Lounge at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, at South Bank. Earlier in the day, media were given a preview of the dedicated G20 Terminal at Brisbane Airport, where state aircraft will arrive.

Brisbane businesses will benefit from an influx of international visitors next week, with registrations for the G20 Leaders’ Summit exceeding expectations. To date, more than 7,600 delegates and media have registered to attend the Leaders’ Summit, compared with the original anticipated total of around 7,000. The number of accredited delegates is now nearly 5,300 and the number of media registered to attend has reached more than 2,300.

The G20 has been a chance for six young Australians studying hotel management to get a glimpse of their chosen industry from the other side of the reception desk. The students have joined the G20 Taskforce for six months as interns, to be a part of the biggest exercise in official hospitality Australia has ever undertaken.

Australia will welcome G20 leaders to Brisbane in November to discuss actions they will take to strengthen the global economy. Together they will present their new policy actions to lift growth in a communiqué and the Brisbane Action Plan. The Leaders’ Summit is the climax of Australia’s presidency.

The G20 is the most significant gathering of world leaders Australia has hosted and is a chance for Brisbane to showcase itself to the world. The G20 Leaders’ Summit takes place on the weekend of November 15 and 16. For people working in the Brisbane Local Government Area, Friday November 14 will be a public holiday. The CBD and South Brisbane will be the centre of G20 activity, and while for most of us it will be business as usual, there will some temporary impacts on the city.
